Hear me out. In Blair Witch 2016, the slow burn leading up to the attacks include scenes of James, Lisa, Peter, and Ashley experiencing lost time. Anyone whose seen even just the first episode of The X-Files knows that a clear sign you've been abducted by aliens is discovering that hours or days have gone by in the blink of an eye.The mythos of the witch strongly supported the idea that she did not act independently, but instead relied on influencing others. One guy from the group goes unaccounted for, and at the end we only see Mike and Heather (presumably).A more common interpretation is that it's the witch/the evil force teasing them with glances of (day)light which they will never see again. Unfortunately we'll never know as the makers made it pretty clear on the movie's commentary track that there won't be another sequel. d7y7Tp.
